COURSE OUTLINE

Scope for statistical methods in physical sciences and engineering. Measure of location, partition, dispersion, skewness and kurtosis.

Elements of probability and probability distributions: Normal, binomial, Poisson, geometric, hyper-geometric, negative binomial distribution.

Regression and Correlation - Analysis of relationships between variables and correlation measures.

Advanced statistical methods: Contingency table analysis, non-parametric tests, introduction to design of experiments, and analysis of variance.

Estimation and hypothesis testing: Point and interval estimation, tests of hypothesis concerning population means, proportions and variances.
